Best Time to Visit Los Cabos

The Short Answer

Los Cabos is a year-round destination — it receives roughly 350 days of sunshine annually, and the rain that does fall mostly comes in brief late-summer bursts. But the best time to visit depends on what matters most to you: weather quality, whale watching, hotel prices, crowd levels, or specific activities.

Here's the honest breakdown.

The Two Main Seasons

Peak Season: November – April

This is when Los Cabos is at its most comfortable and most crowded. Temperatures hover between 70–80°F (21–27°C), humidity is low, the water is clear, and there's virtually no rain. Whale watching season (December–April) runs through most of this window, making January and February especially popular.

The trade-off: hotel prices are at their highest, popular excursions book up quickly, and the marina can feel crowded during Christmas week, spring break, and Easter. If you're traveling in peak season, book 2–3 months ahead for luxury properties.

Value Season: May – October

Hotel rates drop 30–50% from peak season. Beaches are less crowded. The summer months (June–August) bring warmer air temperatures (85–92°F / 29–33°C) and warmer water — excellent for snorkeling and diving. Marlin and dorado fishing peaks in this window too.

The caveat: September is hurricane season, and Los Cabos has been affected in the past (most notably by Hurricane Odile in 2014 and Hurricane Norma in 2023). Risks are real but manageable — most travel insurance policies cover tropical storms, and most travelers who visit in September or October have no issues. Just be aware and plan accordingly.

💡 Sweet Spot: November and early December offer the best of both worlds — comfortable temperatures, declining summer crowds, pre-holiday pricing, and the beginning of whale season. Many experienced Cabo travelers consider this the optimal window.

Best Time to Visit by Travel Type

Honeymoons & Romance

January and February offer the ideal combination: perfect weather, active whale season (watching whales from a chartered yacht is a remarkable honeymoon experience), and the full range of romantic resort experiences. November is an excellent budget-friendly alternative.

Families

March and April (outside of spring break week if possible) or July for summer holidays. The warm, calm Sea of Cortez water in summer is great for kids learning to snorkel. Avoid the specific spring break and Christmas/New Year's peaks if you want manageable crowds.

Sport Fishing

May through November is when Cabo's fishing is at its world-class best. Marlin and dorado peak in summer (June–September), with blue marlin running strong through October.

Budget Travelers

May, early June, or October offer the best value: decent weather, significantly reduced rates, and far fewer crowds. Avoid September unless you're experienced with tropical weather and have flexible travel insurance.
