Golfers figured out decades ago that this desert-meets-sea canvas was tailor-made for championship courses, and the legends followed: Jack Nicklaus, Tom Weiskopf, Greg Norman, Tom Fazio, Davis Love III, Fred Couples, Tiger Woods, and now Ernie Els. The result is a destination that the Los Cabos Tourism Board officially promotes as home to three courses on Golf Digest's World 100 Greatest list and seven of the top ten courses in all of Mexico.
As of June 2026, Los Cabos has more than 18 operational championship and semi-championship layouts — and at least three more in active development or opening this year alone.

Cabo San Lucas — Pacific Side
The Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas is the most dramatic stretch of golf real estate in Mexico. Wind-sculpted dunes, crashing surf, and the raw edge of the Baja Peninsula define every round. Courses here play differently from the sheltered Sea of Cortez side — breezes are real, conditions are links-like, and the views are unforgettable.
1. Solmar Golf Links
Centerpiece of an 834-acre resort and residential community on the Pacific Ocean, Greg Norman's Solmar Golf Links spans three distinct ecosystems: huge windswept dunes on the opening holes, a thick cactus forest laced with arroyos through the middle, and a return to the beach and sea on the back nine. A dramatic 300-foot elevation change gives the course genuine variety from tee to tee.
Norman used a "least-disturbance" design approach, leaving the site's existing contours largely intact. The course's signature feature is its revetted pot bunkers — sharp-edged, steep-walled pits that closely mimic the natural sod-walled bunkers of the British links. The signature hole is the par-3 17th, with the only island green in Los Cabos.

2. El Cardonal at Diamante (Tiger Woods / TGR Design)
El Cardonal opened in 2014 as Tiger Woods' first course design — and immediately raised the profile of both Diamante and Los Cabos on the world stage. Woods drew inspiration from the classic Golden Age courses of California's west coast: multiple options for navigating each hole, strategic decision-making rewarded over raw power, and wide landing areas that create different angles of attack on approach.
PGA Tour note: El Cardonal has hosted the World Wide Technology Championship — the first PGA Tour FedExCup event in Los Cabos — since 2023. The tournament is expected to transition to the new Legacy Club at Diamante from 2027 onward.

3. Diamante — The Dunes Course (Davis Love III)
When Davis Love III first arrived on the Diamante site, he compared it to pulling up to St. Andrews — and the analogy is not far-fetched. The Dunes Course sits among some of the most dramatic white sand dunes in the world, with every hole playing either toward the Pacific, along it, or away from it. It has earned multiple world rankings, including No. 1 course in all of Mexico by Golf Digest (2016) and Top 100 in the World by Golf Magazine.

4. The Oasis Short Course at Diamante (Tiger Woods)
Tiger Woods designed this 12-hole, par-three layout through lush vegetation — including more than 400 palm trees — over an eight-acre lake. The course is ideal for families, beginners, and experienced golfers looking for a short game workout. Its layout is flexible: play it as a 12-hole par-three course, a three-hole loop, or use any combination of the 12 greens as a short game and wedge practice area.
5. Quivira Golf Club
Quivira is, by virtually every credible ranking, the finest golf course in Mexico. Built at the very tip of the Baja California Peninsula — where sheer cliffs, windswept dunes, and desert foothills drop to the Pacific surf — it delivers oceanfront exposure on every single hole, more than any other course in Los Cabos.
The par-5 fifth hole traces a switchback route up the side of a mountain to a tee perched more than 275 feet above the foaming surf below. The par-3 seventh, its concave clifftop green carved from the base of a massive dune, is one of the most photographed holes in the world. Access requires a stay at one of the Pueblo Bonito Oceanfront Resorts and Spas properties.

6. Cabo San Lucas Country Club
The only course in Los Cabos with views of the iconic El Arco sea arch and the rock formations at Land's End. Cabo San Lucas Country Club is the most accessible championship-caliber layout in the Cabo San Lucas area — and one of the best values in the region. The Tourist Corridor (KM 10 to KM 30)
The 20-mile Tourist Corridor connecting Cabo San Lucas to San José del Cabo is home to the highest concentration of luxury resorts and championship golf in the entire destination. Most Corridor courses face the Sea of Cortez; conditions are calmer than the Pacific side, but the desert and mountain scenery is spectacular.
7. Cabo del Sol Course (Tom Weiskopf / Fry-Straka)
Tom Weiskopf's architectural debut in Latin America winds through canyon-like arroyos framed by rock-strewn, cactus-covered mountain foothills — with panoramic Sea of Cortez views from every hole. In November 2023, Fry/Straka Global Golf Design introduced six newly redesigned mountainside holes, adding expanded views. The course remains open during non-aeration windows.

8. The Cove Club Golf Course (Jack Nicklaus)
When Jack Nicklaus designed the Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol in 1994, it immediately ranked among the world's top 100 courses and is credited with putting Los Cabos on the international golf map. Nicklaus himself described the site as "the best golf property I've ever seen." Renovated and reopened in 2019 as the Cove Club Golf Course, a new 18th hole — a peninsula-style green that appears to float on the ocean — was completed in the 2025–26 renovation cycle.
The Cove Club is now fully private. The adjacent Four Seasons Resort and Residences Cabo Del Sol (96 rooms, opened 2025) is the primary resort-guest pathway — confirm current access policy directly with the resort.

Showpiece of a 2,800-acre resort with 3.2 miles of beachfront, Cabo Real is one of the most scenic courses in the Corridor. Robert Trent Jones Jr.'s multithemed design features broad fairways tumbling down to the Sea of Cortez on the front nine — including the short par-4 fifth, which plays across an arroyo to the beach — and a challenging back nine chiseled into desert foothills beneath rugged mountain peaks. San José del Cabo anchors the eastern end of the Los Cabos corridor. The historic Art District and colonial plaza draw cultural travelers, but the city's perimeter is home to several of the region's most celebrated golf venues.
13. Palmilla Golf Club (Jack Nicklaus)
Palmilla is the landmark facility that set the stage for top-shelf golf in Los Cabos when it opened in 1992 — the first Jack Nicklaus Signature Design in all of Latin America. Three distinct nines (Arroyo, Mountain, Ocean) allow any combination of 18 holes, making repeat visits genuinely fresh each time. The Ocean Nine, added in 1997, boasts a 600-foot elevation change from the first tee to the sixth green. Ocean No. 3 drops 150 feet to a beachfront green with crashing Sea of Cortez waves just steps away.

A private 1,800-acre golf community set in rugged desert foothills high above the azure waters of the Sea of Cortez, Querencia is one of Mexico's premier private clubs. Situated on the East Cape 45 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport, the links-style course at Costa Palmas is the centerpiece of a 1,000-acre resort community on the Sea of Cortez, routed across a gently rolling dunescape framed by the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains. Robert Trent Jones Jr. described his design as "a golf symphony composed of three movements and two transitions" — the first six holes encourage bump-and-run links strategies, six upland holes feature mountain views and mesquite groves, and the finishing stretch brings golfers back to the sea and the resort marina. Also includes a six-hole par-3 short course and a one-acre practice putting green.

2026: Three Courses Opening This Year
Los Cabos is in the most significant expansion of its golf history. Three new courses are confirmed for 2026 — two on the Pacific side, one in the Corridor.
Oleada Golf Links (Ernie Els) Opening 2026
The most anticipated new course of 2026. Oleada Golf Links — Ernie Els's first design in Mexico — sits within the new 860-acre Oleada Pacific Living & Golf resort community along a full mile of Pacific Ocean beachfront. Els describes the site as one of the best natural canvases he's ever worked with: sandy ridges, dunes, and rumpled ground built over the ages by wind and tide, requiring minimal earthmoving.
The 7,336-yard layout features five par 5s, five par 3s, and wind-driven strategy that rewards versatile shot-making. Preview play with all-inclusive food and beverage starts July 2026. The Grand Hyatt Los Cabos debuts alongside the course in November 2026; the Conrad Los Cabos follows in 2027.
2026 access window: Oleada will offer limited outside public play during its first season before transitioning to a resort-private model for hotel guests and property owners. If you want to play one of the world's newest and most anticipated links courses, book early in 2026.
The Legacy Club at Diamante (Tiger Woods) Opening Late 2026
Tiger Woods' third course in Los Cabos is conceived with a Shadow Creek-like concept: a private, intimate club set within a lush, sculpted landscape that feels like a world of its own inside the Diamante community. Grass was planted in summer 2025; the course is targeting a late 2026 opening. The Legacy Club is expected to take over as host of the World Wide Technology Championship (PGA Tour FedExCup event) from 2027 onward, replacing El Cardonal.
Campo Alto at Querencia (Tom Fazio) Opening Late 2026
Tom Fazio's second course at Querencia is an architectural statement: four tunnels, one bridge, and finishing holes routed through dramatic canyon terrain. Campo Alto will be entirely private and reserved for Querencia community members.

Practical Tips for Golfing in Los Cabos
Book in advance. Peak season (November through April) books fast — top courses like Palmilla, Quivira, Solmar, and Puerto Los Cabos can fill weeks out. Shoulder season (May–June and October) offers meaningful savings and shorter waits.
Aeration windows. Several courses close for 8–22 days during summer for greens and fairway aeration (typically June–September). Cabo del Sol Course publishes its schedule in advance (see above); always verify current status before booking summer rounds.
Pack for the wind. Pacific-side courses — Quivira, Solmar, Oleada, and the Diamante layouts — are exposed to ocean breezes that shift club selection by two or more clubs. Sea of Cortez-side Corridor courses are generally calmer but not immune to afternoon gusts.
